26-year-old Julia Grabher has enjoyed some her best tennis over the past few weeks and she will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 74th after upsetting an out-of-sorts Jil Teichmann on Friday. The Austrian is proof of how a little luck can go a long way after she lost in qualifying at the Madrid Open before coming through to the second round as a lucky loser and she was not embarrassed in defeat to world number one Iga Swiatek there before playing well so far in Rome. World number nine Daria Kasatkina is the clear favourite to come through this first encounter in straight sets after she blasted past Lisa Pigato on Friday but the Russian has certainly been more vulnerable this season than last and her erratic form so far makes it hard to back her with total confidence. Take the Russian to win outright inside an accumulator or in straight sets on its own. Kasatkina should be considered a dark horse for the Italian Open in conditions that suit her but it would be a surprise to see her maintain the level required all fortnight.
