THE PREDICTION
There are encouraging signs that world number 106 Jule Niemeier is about to come into some serious form after her three-set upset over Karolina Muchova at Wimbledon earlier this month and now her impressive comeback over Yulia Putintseva. The 23-year-old has been touted as a future Grand Slam champion at Wimbledon after reaching the quarter-finals there last summer with some electrifying power but she has struggled to find any sort of consistency since on tour. Playing at home here in Hamburg should aid her cause but playing so early the next day after a tough match with sixth seed Putintseva is very unhelpful indeed, with her defeat to Dalma Galfi at SW19 after Muchova as much about fatigue as anything else. Former world number 20 Daria Saville is an excellent scrapper who will enjoy the occasion of trying to take down a home hopeful, just as she did against Tamara Korpatsch on Wednesday. The Aussie is working her way back top full fitness from a serious knee injury suffered late last season but the signs are good so far. Take Niemeier to earn at least a set with some fire in her belly but it is wise to leave this one up to chance.
