THE PREDICTION
World number 37 Jiri Lehecka reached the quarter-finals of the Australian Open earlier this season to announce himself a real up-and-comer on tour and the hard-hitting Czech has all the qualities required to one day thrive at Wimbledon too. The 21-year-old brings a 2-2 record on grass into SW19 but his two defeats were to eventual champions, Frances Tiafoe in Stuttgart and Carlos Alcaraz in Queen’s, to suggest he could be a factor in the first week at least. 27-year-old Sebastian Ofner set a career-high ATP world ranking of 69th last month after a remarkable run of his own to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros, losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas just as Lehecka did in Melbourne. Ofner backed-up his run in Paris by finishing runner-up to Jason Kubler at the Ilkley Challenger late last month to bring some intriguing grass form into this first meeting but it would be a surprise to see Lehecka fall so early. Sets should go both ways in this first encounter but back the Czech to come through.
