THE PREDICTION

World number 77 Lesia Tsurenko has been enjoying some great form on the natural surfaces since last summer and she conceded just four games to Lucia Bronzetti on Wednesday for an excellent foothold in Madrid. The 33-year-old was unfortunate to meet an in-form Ons Jabeur at this stage of the Charleston Open earlier this month as she looked in good shape on the green clay and this match with Jil Teichmann is one of the harder calls on Friday. World number 30 Teichmann is one of the more natural clay-courters inside the top 30 but the Swiss takes a three-match losing streak into Madrid. The 25-year-old has occasionally enjoyed some very deep runs at Masters events and the conditions certainly suit her best here but it has been a very poor start to 2023 by her standards. A first meeting between the two will likely see three sets but back Tsurenko to earn at least one of them as the just-about likelier victor.
