THE PREDICTION
23-year-old Fabian Marozsan came into the Umag Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of 87th after enjoying some recent success on clay at Challenger level and he beat Juan Manuel Cerundolo in straight sets on Wednesday to get his campaign underway well. The Hungarian’s remarkable victory over Carlos Alcaraz at the Italian Open is probably still the shock of the year on the ATP tour but it remains to be seen how the rest of his 2023 pans out away from his favoured clay. World number 104 Jaume Munar overcame Albert Ramos-Vinolas in three sets on Tuesday in what will always be considered a strong result on the surface and he looks in strong form after last week’s victory over Stan Wawrinka at the Gstaad Open, where he lost in the last eight to eventual champion Pedro Cachin. A first meeting between the two is a tricky result to call but Munar is better than his current ranking suggests. Consider three sets here, with Munar no stranger to a lengthy battle, or take the Spaniard to earn at least one to avoid fully siding with either.
