World number 52 Jasmine Paolini stunned top seed Daria Kasatkina in three sets on Friday to maintain Italian hopes at the Palermo Ladies Open. The 27-year-old has battled through three-successive three-set results this week with her typical brand of aggressive every-ball tennis but she may meet her match here against Sara Sorribes Tormo, who similarly thrives in a scrap. The Spaniard is steadily making her way back up the WTA world rankings after suffering a long injury last-off last season and she has looked strong in back-to-back straight-sets wins. Sorribes Tormo came close to making the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros last month to bring some strong form on her favoured clay into Palermo but home advantage should play its part in this first meeting between the two.
