World number four Jannik Sinner became the first man born inside this millennium to reach 200 career wins on tour, doing so via a retirement as the impressive Milos Raonic was forced to stop play after losing a tight opening set on Friday. 22-year-old Sinner has laboured a little to his three victories so far this week but he has so far passed a serious test in mentality after his life changed last month, when he beat Novak Djokovic en-route to a maiden Grand Slam title at the Australian Open, and he rides a 13-match winning streak overall. This is no gimme, though, against hungry home favourite Tallon Griekspoor, who beat Emil Ruusuvuori in straight sets on Friday to back-up an excellent upset over Hubert Hurkacz. The 27-year-old will be feeling it after a slog this week, spending almost twice as long as Sinner on court so far in Rotterdam, but the indoor crowd have been super-charging him to suggest sets could go both ways here – at least.
Sinner leads their head-to-head 2-0 having not yet dropped a set to the Dutchman, including at this exact stage last season en-route to the title, but caution would be wise here. Both of their meetings, and all three pf Griekspoor’s this week, have seen at least a tiebreak so take that option plus at least a set for Sinner to avoid a result.
