THE PREDICTION
21-year-old Jannik Sinner comes into Wimbledon at a career-high ATP world ranking of eighth after enjoying a strong season so far. The Italian added the Montpellier Open to his now seven career titles but he also finished runner-up to Daniil Medvedev at both the Rotterdam 500 and Miami Masters and he made the semi-finals in Monte-Carlo. Sinner beat Carlos Alcaraz in four sets to reach the quarter-finals here last summer and he came close to ousting eventual champion Novak Djokovic in the quarter-finals, taking the first two sets before the Serb turned the screw. It remains to be seen if his retirement from the quarter-finals of the Halle Open last week was precautionary or not but if he is fit he should be considered a dark horse at SW19.
World number 110 Juan Manuel Cerundolo won his maiden ATP title on his tour debut at the Cordoba Open two years ago but since then the Argentine has been usurped by his brother, Francisco, who stunned Sinner at the Italian Open just last month. The 21-year-old has plenty of time to get back into the swing of things after such an incredible start to his career but his inexperience on grass should see Sinner get his promising campaign underway well in straight sets.
