THE PREDICTION
33-year-old Jan-Lennard Struff could break the top 20 for the first time next week if he reaches the Stuttgart Open final and he will be backed to the hilt here by a home crowd desperate for some German success on tour. Struff recently burst into form to finish runner-up at the Madrid Masters on clay but the powerful baseliner is playing some of the best tennis of his career right now and he has plenty of qualities that thrive in grass conditions. World number 14 Hubert Hurkacz is even better on this surface at his best, though, as one of the most natural grass-courters on tour. The Pole beat Christopher O’Connell in straight sets on Friday to improve wildly on a close scare against Yosuke Watanuki but he will have to step up several leagues more to edge through here. Hurkacz won on German grass in Halle last summer but Struff is yet to drop a set this week and home advantage should see him able to snatch at least a set. Take that option and consider adding at least a tiebreak here between two hard to serves that are hard to break.
