World number 40 Anna Blinkova needed three sets to overcome a former quarter-finalist here in Belgian veteran Yanina Wickmayer but she should be the better for an early battle. World number 30 Irina-Camelia Begu also needed three sets to oust Rebecca Marino on Wednesday but the Romanian had not played since a run to the third round at Roland-Garros and she should also improve on her opening performance here. The 32-year-old leads Blinkova 2-0 in their tour-level head-to-head but the pair have not met since 2021 and Blinkova brings plenty of grass-court practice into the equation after making the quarter-finals of the Bad Homburg Open last week. Leave this tight call out of an accumulator but back the Russian to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors.
