THE PREDICTION
World number one Iga Swiatek was challenged by Daria Saville on Wednesday but the defending champion never looked like dropping a set in a solid win. The 22-year-old won her fourth Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros in June by overcoming a strong challenge from Karolina Muchova as one of many contemporaries steadily improving around her and she could be usurped at the top of the sport by Aryna Sabalenka if she does not out-perform the world number two this fortnight. World number 145 Kaja Juvan is a friend of Swiatek’s off the court but she has felt no favour on it, losing both of their previous meetings. The Slovenian, also 22, is capable of much better tennis than her current deflated ranking suggests and she has so far proved it with wins over 29th seed Elisabetta Cocciaretto and plucky home hopeful Lauren Davis. Juvan took a set from Swiatek in the second round of the Australian Open two years ago but the Pole has improved exponentially since then. Back Swiatek to win in straight sets, with Juvan likely to put up a creditable fight.
