THE PREDICTION
World number one Iga Swiatek overcame Danielle Collins in three sets on Friday to set up yet another huge clash with Jessica Pegula, who upset her doubles partner Coco Gauff in three of her own. Swiatek leads Pegula 5-2 in their storied head-to-head record with this their fourth semi-final against each other since the start of last season. Pegula knows she would have won a lot more than her Guadalajara Masters title in 2022 had Swiatek not existed but she managed to snap a four-match losing streak to the Pole in January this year to help the US lift the inaugural United Cup. Swiatek has since beaten the American again to win the Qatar Open final back in February, conceding just three games, but this should come a lot closer after some impressive performances from Pegula over the past two weeks. The clearly sensible option is taking Swiatek to earn at least a set, as she has done in six of their seven encounters but the shrewd one could be backing Pegula to do the same.
