THE PREDICTION

World number one Iga Swiatek is the two-time defending champion here in Stuttgart, winning her first in 2022 via a straight-set victory over Emma Raducanu. The 22-year-old beat Elise Mertens in straight sets on Thursday in her first match back on tour since a shock exit to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the last 16 of the Miami Open last month but she will be ecstatic to return to her favoured clay for what should be another dominant spring.

Former number 10 Raducanu has rarely been outplayed in her brief but illustrious career, with the vast majority of her defeats coming via injury either lingering or sustained, but she has been convincingly beaten by the world number one in both of their previous encounters. The 21-year-old looks back to her effortless best after struggling to stay fit long enough to take part for much of the past two seasons but, on paper, this should be too steep of a challenge. Four wins on the spin on indoor clay makes her a real threat, particularly after blasting past fellow youngster Linda Noskova on Thursday to prove she can take the front foot as well as fight back, and she has the ability to upset Swiatek's dominant rhythm enough to snatch at least a set here.

TIP: EMMA RADUCANU TO WIN A SET
