World number one Iga Swiatek is the two-time defending champion here at the Italian Open and so far playing like it. The 21-year-old has few genuine potential threats to her defence left in the draw after Aryna Sabalenka and Ons Jabeur were knocked out early in the draw and she has conceded just two games across two matches so far to bulldoze through to the round of 16. World number 24 Donna Vekic has the skills to cause real trouble here after two impressive comebacks over Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Liudmila Samsonova but the Croat is unlikely to have enough time or opportunity to play herself into the contest. Vekic has seriously improved on tour since joining up with new coach Pam Shriver and she took a rare set from Swiatek in the final of the San Diego Open last October before defeat but clay, and particularly Rome, certainly favours the Pole. Back Swiatek to take a 4-0 lead in their head-to-head with a straight-sets victory.
