THE PREDICTION
World number one Iga Swiatek conceded just one game to Rebecca Peterson in her customary ruthless start to the defence of her US Open title. The 22-year-old claimed her fourth Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros in June, a third in Paris, in a real battle with Karolina Muchova and whilst she has started to feel more pressure at the top of the sport she is still far too good for players ranked outside the top 30. Former world number 20 Daria Saville only conceded one more game against wildcard Clervie Ngounoue on Monday to bring some much-needed confidence into this steep test. The Aussie suffered a season-ending injury around this time last year in Tokyo and she is currently ranked outside the top 300 as a result, with plenty of time at 29 years old to get back inside the top 50 at least. Saville has drawn the shortest straw here, though, with Swiatek likely winning in comfortable straight sets.
