THE PREDICTION
World number 46 Alexei Popyrin came back from a set down to beat up-and-coming Abedallah Shelbayh on Monday but he should be better for an early scare. The 24-year-old won his maiden ATP title this time three years ago at the Singapore Open and he added a second ATP 250 trophy last summer at the Umag Open to recover well from a woeful 2022. World number 151 Hugo Grenier qualified well this weekend to make the main draw in Doha and he avoided a tough assignment when Tallon Griekspoor pulled out of their opening fixture, coping well with the reset to beat Maximilian Marterer in straight sets. The 27-year-old impressed in a three-set tussle with Sebastian Korda last time out in Marseille but this should be a similarly steep test against Popyrin, whose best level is slightly out of reach still. Back the Aussie to win.
TIP: ALEXEI POPYRIN TO WIN
