THE PREDICTION

World number nine Hubert Hurkacz broke the serve of 10-time Italian Open champion Rafael Nadal four times in a blistering straight-sets win on Saturday, throwing huge doubts over the Spaniard’s chances at Roland-Garros. 27-year-old Hurkacz was, coincidentally, the last player to beat Roger Federer on tour before the great Swiss retired in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon three years ago and the Pole looks set to peak in time for another excellent swing on grass this summer.

World number 28 Tomas Martin Etcheverry beat in-form Thiago Seyboth Wild in straight sets on Saturday for an excellent foothold at the Italian Open and he is certainly the more comfortable on clay in this encounter between the two. Hurkacz grabbed his first ATP title on clay at the Estoril Open to change the narrative in these conditions but Etcheverry should not be underestimated as a clay-courter through-and-through. Back Hurkacz to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: HUBERT HURKACZ TO WIN
