World number six Holger Rune received a walkover to the third round after Gael Monfils was forced to withdraw from the tournament but he would likely have come through in straight sets after the Frenchman’s exhaustive exploits in the first round. 20-year-old Rune has finished runner-up at two Masters finals this season on clay, to Andrey Rublev in Monte-Carlo and Daniil Medvedev in Rome, but victories over the likes of Novak Djokovic, Casper Ruud, Jannik Sinner and Medvedev (in Monte-Carlo) since the start of April make him one of the main outside title contenders here. The Dane produced a stunning run to the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros last summer, upsetting former finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas in the round of 16, and it should take someone at the very top of the game to oust him this time. 24-year-old Genaro Alberto Olivieri will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 171st after ousting fellow qualifiers Andrea Vavassori and Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard but this should be several leagues too steep of a challenge. Back Rune to win in straight sets.
