THE PREDICTION

World number six Holger Rune conceded just eight games to Genaro Olivieri on Saturday to maintain his impressive start to a promising Roland-Garros campaign. The Dane first really came to the fore with a huge upset over Stefanos Tsitsipas at this stage last season before a four-set defeat to eventual champion Casper Ruud but he looks the most likely to reach a first Grand Slam final from this wide open half of the draw. This first meeting with Francisco Cerundolo will be his toughest test yet this fortnight, though, as the Argentine continues to enjoy some serious form on his favoured clay. 24-year-old Cerundolo came back from a set down to upset ninth seed Taylor Fritz on Saturday and recent wins over the likes of Cam Norrie, Jannik Sinner and Casper Ruud on the surface could see him break the top 20 on tour for the first time.

Rune’s main foe coming into Paris was his fitness as the 20-year-old has struggled with cramping in the latter stages of recent tournaments but a walkover into the third round gives him a huge boost of energy for the second week. Take Rune to win outright with four sets about as likely as three.
