World number seven Holger Rune has so far defended his maiden ATP title here in Munich well with back-to-back straight-set victories over Yannick Hanfmann and Cristian Garin. The 19-year-old comes in at a career-high ATP world ranking after finishing runner-up to Andrey Rublev at the Monte-Carlo Open last week and it was last season’s clay swing in which the Dane really began to motor up the rankings towards the top 10 star he is today. 28-year-old Christopher O’Connell is so far enjoying the best season of his career and he can set a new career-high ranking of around 67th if he causes one of the upsets of the year here. The Aussie stunned an out-of-sorts Alexander Zverev in the round of 16 and then overcame Flavio Cobolli in three tight sets on Friday to look the part but it really would be a huge surprise to see Rune drop the ball at this stage of the tournament. Back the Dane to win in straight sets.
