World number seven Holger Rune was made to work hard for his straight-sets victory over Michael Mmoh on Friday as he continues to seek out his best form on tour. The 20-year-old first truly blossomed on the late hardcourt swing of 2022 with a series of impressive results indoors culminating in an incredible comeback over Novak Djokovic in the Paris Masters final but 2023, at least the second half, saw him struggle to maintain his intensity long enough to put away the better players. Former number 12 Borna Coric enjoyed a straight-sets victory over Flavio Cobolli on Friday to boost some confidence after a poor start to 2024.
