THE PREDICTION

27-year-old Harriet Dart is through to her first ever tour-level semi-final after beating Nuria Parrizas-Diaz in straight sets to avenge her defeat to the Spaniard at the Canberra Challenger last month. The Brit came back from a set down to oust fifth seed Elisabetta Cocciaretto on Thursday, building on an excellent qualifying campaign but she will face her toughest player yet in former number one Karolina Pliskova, who was always set to be a dangerous draw as an unseeded player at her current deflated ranking of 78th. 31-year-old Pliskova is yet to drop a set this week after ending old foe Sara Errani’s interesting run with a blistering win on Friday.

The Czech has conceded just five games in her last two matches to look like rediscovering a little bit of rhythm after such a poor 12 months on tour but Dart took her to three sets before defeat in their only previous meeting at tour level, at Wimbledon in 2018, to suggest this could come closer than it should. Karolina Pliskova should be rolling through this entire draw at her best but it has been some time since the Czech could be backed to dependably do so. Take Pliskova to win outright.

TIP: KAROLINA PLISKOVA TO WIN
