THE PREDICTION
33-year-old Guido Pella entered Wimbledon on a protected ranking after enduring several seasons of injuries, including losing more than a season from the tour altogether. The Argentine set a career-high ATP world ranking of 20th after his career-best run to the quarter-finals here in 2019 and he will be ecstatic to be back in the third round after coming back from a set down to beat Harold Mayot on Thursday, claiming back-to-back wins for the first time since the Cincinnati Masters almost two years ago. Pella upset 13th seed Borna Coric in the first round but world number 92 Roman Safiullin did the same against 20th seed Roberto Bautista Agut, who beat Pella to the semi-finals here for years ago, in the first round before a more assured victory over Corentin Moutet. The 25-year-old has always been capable of more than his current ranking suggests and he could have the edge here after beating a left-hander in Moutet for some rare match practice ahead of his clash with another southpaw.
Two matches in two days will push Pella to the limit as he continues to rehabilitate to tour life but this match is wide open considering his pedigree at SW19. Take both players to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
