33-year-old Guido Pella set a career-high ATP world ranking of 20th after a career-best run to the quarter-finals here in 2019 but the Argentine has struggled with a series of injuries since, missing over a year from the tour altogether before a return late last season. The current world number 308 rolled back the years on Wednesday with an incredible upset in five sets over 13th seed Borna Coric but he has, as of yet, failed to win back-to-back matches on tour since his comeback as he continues to rehabilitate. 21-year-old Harold Mayot claimed his first ever tour-level win on his Wimbledon debut with a straight-sets victory over out-of-sorts compatriot Benjamin Bonzi. The Frenchman could set a career-high ATP world ranking as high as 150th for his trouble but he fares an excellent chance at a huge run to the third round against Pella here if he can play the occasion well to work his opponent as hard as possible. This match rests mostly on Pella’s recovery but sets should go both ways here, so take Mayot to earn at least one of them or both to take a set to leave the victor up to chance.
