World number 26 Grigor Dimitrov had to qualify for Queen’s over the weekend but the extra practice on grass looked to do him the world of good in an assured straight-sets victory over Emil Ruusuvuori on Tuesday. The 32-year-old reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon in 2014, one of three last four exits at major tournaments, to prove his credentials on the surface and he looks to be enjoying an upturn in form after reaching huis first final since 2018 at the Geneva Open last month before a run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros. 24-year-old Francisco Cerundolo set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 19th this week after also producing an excellent run to the round of 16 in Paris and he overcame Tommy Paul in three tight sets on Monday. The Argentine impressed on his Wimbledon debut last summer, taking Rafael Nadal to four sets before defeat, and he has plenty of tools required to excel on the surface over the next few weeks.
A first meeting between the two could be a thriller on Thursday and with both players in strong form it seems likely that three sets will be required to split them. Consider a one-off on that option or back Cerundolo to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier of two very capable victors.
