THE PREDICTION

Greece’s singles players look too strong for Canada’s on paper, especially in Felix Auger-Aliassime’s absence through injury, but international tennis has a way of making a mockery of rankings. Canada are a close-knit team with recent successes in both men’s and women’s international tournaments, with Leylah Fernandez leading them to a first Billie Jean King Cup just two months ago, and whilst Steven Diez looks set to suffer in the singles opener he should combine well once again in the doubles if Fernandez can edge past Maria Sakkari in the vital second match. If the tie is live at 1-1 here expect a tense thriller between two sides currently chasing Chile at the top of a tight Group B.

Tsitsipas and Sakkari should have won their opening decider against the Chileans but they should be better for that chastening, whilst Canada’s underdog momentum is exactly the sort of fuel that could see Leylah Fernandez take control of this encounter. Greece should win but Canada’s belief could be the defining factor. If the tie is live, take the Canadians to earn at least a set as the just-about likelier duo to edge through.

TIP: (IF THE TIE IS 1-1) CANADA TO WIN A SET
