THE PREDICTION
World number six Holger Rune made the semi-finals of the Queen’s Championships last week to look a solid threat at Wimbledon but it would be a surprise to see him get further than the quarter-finals for a number of reasons. The 20-year-old fast-tracked his rise up the rankings late last season by upsetting Novak Djokovic to win the Paris Masters but he is still relatively inexperienced on tour, with his first ever win in five sets coming earlier this month at Roland-Garros. Rune lost in four sets to Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals in Paris for a second year in a row as he struggled to cope with fatigue and his body, still acclimatising to full tour life, has been his biggest foe this season.
22-year-old George Loffhagen set a career-high ATP world ranking of 364th two weeks ago after a strong run to the Nottingham Challenger quarter-finals on grass and he came close to picking up a first tour win this week in a three-set defeat to Luca Van Assche. The Brit will be backed to the hilt here by the home fans on the biggest day of his young career but Holger Rune should be blasting through him in straight sets here – particularly as the Dane knows he must conserve energy where possible.
