THE PREDICTION
This looks set to be a thrilling battle on Saturday between second seed Tommy Paul and fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo, with their head-to-head finely poised at 1-1 with a three-set victory each on grass. World number 17 Paul beat Cerundolo in three in the first round here last summer but Cerundolo has since improved on the surface to gain revenge in the first round at Queen’s last week. Both players have had to play already today, although Cerundolo needed just one more game to complete his semi-final comeback over Mackenzie McDonald whilst Paul had to play his entire match this morning in an impressive straight-sets result over Gregoire Barrere. The American has the legs to cope with a second match today and he can at least rest assured that he has a kind opening fixture waiting for him at Wimbledon but Cerundolo has impressed on grass over the last two weeks to look the slightest favourite. Three sets seem likely here and so backing the Argentine to earn at least one of them looks the sensible call if you are not taking the risky three-set option.
