24-year-old Francisco Cerundolo set a career-high ATP world ranking of 19th last month after an excellent run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros ended in five sets to Holger Rune. The Argentine impressed in a four-set defeat to Rafael Nadal at this stage of Wimbledon last season and he comes in one year later with a four-match winning streak on grass after claiming the Eastbourne International last week. A first meeting with world number 69 Nuno Borges is a kind opening draw for Cerundolo this time around but his biggest foe will be recalibrating after taking his second career title just three days ago. Sets will probably go both ways for that reason more than any other but back Cerundolo to win outright here with an interesting week ahead of him.
