THE PREDICTION
This promises to be an entertaining battle between defending Bastad Open champion Francisco Cerundolo and second seed Andrey Rublev. World number seven Rublev won the Monte-Carlo Masters earlier this season to see his most prestigious of 13 ATP titles come on clay but the Russian is one of the better all-courters on tour with recent runs on grass at Halle and Wimbledon. 24-year-old Cerundolo also enjoyed the grass swing, claiming his second ATP title at the Eastbourne International, and he has looked untroubled so far in Bastad with two comfortable wins over Luca Van Assche and Federico Coria. This is a much tougher test against an in-form Rublev but the Argentine won their only previous encounter at the Hamburg Open last summer, on clay, to suggest this could go down to the wire. Three sets seem likelier than two here so take Rublev, who beat Alexander Zverev in impressive straight sets on Friday, to earn at least one of them as the just-about likelier victor.
