The 22-year-old takes a concerning four-match losing streak into the Canada Masters and the last player he beat inside the top 80 was Tommy Paul way back in March. A kind opening draw on a home court is exactly the sort of spark Auger-Aliassime required to get his season back up and running but world number 78 Max Purcell qualified handily this weekend and he will know how fragile his opponent currently is. Auger-Aliassime is by far at his best on a hardcourt but he lost in straight sets to Yosuke Watanuki in Washington last week to throw some big doubts over this opener.
