World number 93 Federico Coria is one of the more inexplicable players on tour and certainly one of the most clay-specialised, although he faces another clay aficionado here in fellow Argentine Facundo Bagnis. Coria beat Tomas Martin Etcheverry in straight sets on Friday to blow the draw wide open in Cordoba and he should receive the lion’s share of support after finishing runner-up to Sebastian Baez here last season. 33-year-old Bagnis will move back inside the top 200 on tour after an excellent run in Cordoba, backing up his Challenger title claimed in Buenos Aires last month. Neither player has dropped a set this week, with Bagnis blasting through qualifying to bring two extra matches’ worth of momentum into this intriguing clash, but Coria has arguably ousted the better players overall.
