THE PREDICTION

28-year-old Ekaterina Alexandrova successfully defended her Libema Open title last month, coming back from a set down to beat compatriot Veronika Kudermetova to lift her fourth WTA title overall. The world number 21 then enjoyed a strong run to the semi-finals of the Berlin Open last week, beating Coco Gauff and Liudmila Samsonova before defeat to eventual champion Petra Kvitova and if she can find that level at Wimbledon she should be considered one of the many dark horses for the title. 22-year-old Emma Navarro will make her Wimbledon debut here at a career-high WTA world ranking of 60th after recent success on the ITF circuit. The 22-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Bad Homburg Open this week before defeat to Katerina Siniakova to look very competitive here but in-form Alexandrova should be able to take this opener in straight sets all the same.
