22-year-old Emilio Nava stunned former Los Cabos champion Diego Schwartzman in straight sets on Tuesday and he will set a career-high ATP world ranking of 133rd for his efforts. The American has an entertaining game that could one day click into something potent but this looks too steep of a challenge against in-form Jordan Thompson, who set a career-high of 40th this week after back-to-back quarter-final exits in Dallas and Delray Beach. The 29-year-old will be desperate to use the form he has built steadily over the past 12 months to finally win a maiden ATP title and he has the temperament to survive the harsh playing conditions here more than most to suggest this could be a promising week. Nava should not be underestimated but, then again, neither should Thompson’s current dependable level. Back the Aussie to win outright.
