29-year-old Gregoire Barrere set a career-high ATP world ranking of 56th this week after some recent strong results, most notably upsetting Cam Norrie at the Miami Open. The Frenchman has proven tough to beat on hardcourts over the last 12 months but neither player come sin with much clay form to speak of. World number 173 Emilio Nava set a career-high of 170th just last week after enjoying a career-best victory over John Isner at the Miami Open but it is hard to see Barrere letting this opportunity go, particularly as his hardcourt prowess will be rewarded somewhat by the high altitude conditions in Madrid. This first meeting between the two is a tough one to call with total confidence, though, so back Barrere to earn at least a set if including it inside an accumulator.
