THE PREDICTION

World number 15 Karen Khachanov received a bye through to the round of 16 as the second seed at the Hong Kong Open and he looks to have drawn a kind enough opponent in Emil Ruusuvuori, who has lost both of their previous encounters in straight sets. 27-year-old Khachanov has endured a weird couple of seasons on tour, producing arguably the best tennis of his career in patches whilst struggling to stay fit enough to make any sort of consistency, but he ended 2023 in fine form with a run to the quarter-finals at the Paris Masters. The Russian won his most prestigious title in Paris back in 2018 and it will be interesting to see how he fares at smaller tournaments this season after shaking off a five-year title drought with victory in Zhuhai back in September. 24-year-old Ruusuvuori is capable of much better tennis than his current ranking of 69th suggests but this looks too steep of a challenge after his comeback win over Benjamin Bonzi on Monday. Back Khachanov to win outright.

TIP: KAREN KHACHANOV TO WIN
