THE PREDICTION
World number eight Andrey Rublev has been handed a horrid draw for a top seed at the US Open. The 25-year-old lost to Emil Ruusuvuori three tight sets last week in Cincinnati to add vengeance into the mix in this rematch but he takes a three-match losing streak into the first round after struggling since winning the Bastad Open late last month. World number 56 Ruusuvuori is at his best on a US hardcourt but he will have been hugely disappointed not to capitalise on his victory over Rublev last week as he lost in the next round to Alexei Popyrin in three sets. The Finn has grossly underperformed at Grand Slams so far considering the level he can produce at his best in these conditions, with second round exits at all four majors his personal bests so far. Rublev leads Ruusuvuori 2-1 in their head-to-head after winning their second round clash at the Australian Open in four sets back in January and he can be backed to gain revenge as the outright winner here. This match is a reasonable candidate for five sets.
