THE PREDICTION

World number 24 Alejandro Davidovich Fokina came back from a set down to beat home hopeful Gregoire Barrere on Tuesday as he looks to kick-start his season. The 24-year-old is a string all-courter, despite enjoying his best runs on clay so far, but inconsistent at the best of times – with his last back-to-back win coming in late August en-route to the third round at the US Open. Similar could be said for world number 55 Emil Ruusuvuori, who reached his maiden ATP final in Hong Kong at the start of the year, finishing runner-up to Andrey Rublev, before failing to put away Daniil Medvedev from two sets up in a five-set defeat at the Australian Open last month. The Finn appears to be in a strong place still after a straight-sets opener over Luca Van Assche but Davidovich Fokina has won both of their previous encounters in straight sets to look the slight favourite here. Back the Spaniard to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: ALEJANDRO DAVIDOVICH FOKINA TO WIN
