In-form Anna Kalinskaya can move back up to her career-high WTA world ranking of 51st with victory here after she beat Dayana Yastremska with room to spare on Wednesday. The Russian stunned Elena Rybakina in three sets to reach the third round of the Madrid Open two weeks ago, backing up an excellent run to the semi-finals in Charleston that were ended by an unfortunate injury against eventual champion Ons Jabeur. World number 26 Elise Mertens also made the third round in Madrid with a solid campaign before a three-set upset by Mayar Sherif. The 27-year-old is a strong all-courter with three of her seven WTA titles coming on clay after ending last season as the Jasmin Open title but this looks a wide-open clash on recent form. Kalinskaya beat Mertens in three sets at the Guadalajara Masters late last season but the Belgian has improved since then. Back Kalinskaya to earn at least a set here or consider the three-set option outside of an accumulator.
