THE PREDICTION
This should be a fascinating match between two former top 10 players who have recently returned to the tour as former world number three Elina Svitolina take son former number one Caroline Wozniacki. 28-year-old Svitolina returned from maternity leave earlier this summer before producing an incredible run to the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros and then the semi-finals at Wimbledon but she was well beaten by Danielle Collins, no embarrassment at all, early in Montreal last week. 33-year-old Wozniacki will come into Cincinnati ranked inside the top 700 after winning her first match back in over three years since retiring in early 2020. The Dane was in the match against new Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova before defeat in the second round and she should be competitive again here whilst also playing the severe underdog. Svitolina leads Wozniacki 4-1 in their head-to-head but their last match came in 2018 and there are plenty of outside factors making this a one-off event. Back Svitolina to win but leave this one out of an accumulator.
