THE PREDICTION
World number four Elena Rybakina conceded just three games to Marta Kostyuk on Monday before receiving an extra day’s rest as Ajla Tomljanovic as forced to withdraw on the eve of their second round fixture. Extra rest should greatly benefit the 24-year-old after recently voicing her displeasure at some of the late-night scheduling on the WTA tour, with her semi-final exit in Montreal partly down to exhaustion from a rain delay the previous round. World number 30 Sorana Cirstea should not be underestimated in these conditions despite trailing Rybakina 0-2 in their head-to-head. The 33-year-old has so far looked assured in straight-set victories over Kayla Day and Anna Kalinskaya to look close to the level that saw her produce some stunning runs on the Sunshine Double back in March but Rybakina reached both finals that month, winning Indian Wells before finishing runner-up to Petra Kvitova in Miami, who in turn had beaten Cirstea in the semi-finals.
Rybakina is still a little way off her best level that saw her lift the Rome Masters title in May but she can be backed to come through relatively unscathed here. Take the Kazakh to win outright inside an accumulator in in straight sets on its own.
