THE PREDICTION

World number 22 Ekaterina Alexandrova returned to tour last week from a month-long absence since her round of 16 exit to Aryna Sabalenka, claiming just two games in a quick exit to Sorana Cirstea in Cincinnati. The 28-year-old is a consistent performer at WTA 250 level, though, with four titles including back-to-back at the two most recent editions of ‘s-Hertogenbosch, where she beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich back in June. A straight-sets victory over Patricia Tig on Sunday was a solid way to start her Cleveland campaign but world number 68 Sasnovich should be a tougher test after coming through qualifying to oust in-form Emma Navarro from a set down on Monday. The pair played doubles in an early exit in Cincinnati last week but Alexandrova has never lost to the Belarussian in singles matches on and off the tour. Back the Russian to win outright.
