World number 70 Dusan Lajovic has impressed in stages of this season, particularly on clay, and he overcame fellow Serb Filip Krajinovic in three sets on Monday to get a solid start at the inaugural Banja Luka Open. The 32-year-old has seen his strongest three runs all foiled by Carlos Alcaraz so far this season but is also the sort of player that can sometimes provide his best against the best and falter in matches he should win. That leaves the door wide open for world number 57 Gregoire Barrere, who had to wait until Wednesday to complete his first round victory over Hamad Medjedovic. The 29-year-old will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 55th no matter the outcome here but his recent results out-strip Lajovic’s in form, particularly his stunning upset over Cam Norrie at the Miami Open late last month. The conditions, and the crowd, favour Lajovic but Barrere feels like the more dependable player here. Back the Frenchman to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
