World number 27 Tallon Griekspoor overcame Christopher Eubanks in three sets on Tuesday to bounce back from a surprise early exit to Francesco Passaro at the Italian Open last time out. The Dutchman stunned Holger Rune in three sets at the Madrid Open late last month to prove his efficacy in these conditions but he has dropped at least a set in each of his last 10 matches to suggest he is struggling to find his industrious best on tour.
World number 123 Denis Shapovalov was an explosive threat on all surfaces at his best but the Canadian has struggled to find anything like his top gear for much of the last two seasons. The 25-year-old handed clay specialist Federico Coria a second-set bagel on Tuesday to build on some recent form, with two eye-catching results against Facundo Diaz Acosta and Tomas Martin Etcheverry in Madrid last month, but he remains perhaps the most unpredictable player on tour.
