DENIS SHAPOVALOV VS FRANCES TIAFOE PREDICTION

World number 26 Frances Tiafoe and number 118 Denis Shapovalov both set career-high ATP world rankings of 10th within the past few seasons and they are both young enough to return to those heights. 25-year-old Shapovalov coasted through his first round match in straight sets over former junior champion Luca Van Assche on Monday but he has endured a woeful past two seasons on tour, compounded by an injury after the US Open last summer, to languish outside the top 100 with no real signs of making a significant return.

The Canadian can, however, still get it going on a big occasion, much like Frances Tiafoe, to suggest that this match could see four or even five sets of thrilling battle. 26-year-old Tiafoe will be eager to avoid that after edging past qualifier Mattia Bellucci in five gruelling sets on Monday and he trails Shapovalov 4-2 in their head-to-head to suggest he may be the next seed to crash out in Paris.

A first meeting on clay probably best suits Shapovalov, despite Tiafoe owning the only title on the surface of the two. Back Shapovalov to earn at least two sets to leave this one up to chance.
