23-year-old Dayana Yastremska finally rediscovered her mojo last month to produce a simply breath-taking run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open, stunning two-time former champion Victoria Azarenka and current Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova en-route. The Ukrainian set a career-high WTA world ranking of 21st at the start of 2020 but after several years in the wilderness she has moved back inside the top 30 to pose an intriguing threat to the top order over the coming months. A three-set opener over Erika Andreeva on Wednesday is encouraging considering the huge emotional climbdown from defeat to eventual runner-up Qinwen Zheng last week in Melbourne and she should be better for an early scare as she aims to throw aside her recent inconsistency.
World number 34 Donna Vekic looks set for a tough time in this first match of her Linz campaign. The 27-year-old brings a four-match losing streak into the round of 16, receiving a bye as the third seed this week, and she trails Yastremska 3-2 in their head-to-head with the Ukrainian winning each of their three encounters on hardcourts. Back in-form Yastremska to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable quarter-finalists.
