THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Daria Kasatkina moved back inside the top 10 this week after finishing runner-up to Madison Keys at the Eastbourne International and she looks a genuine dark horse at Wimbledon so far after blasting through her first match on Monday. The Russian reached the quarter-finals here back in 2018 in her first of two spells of peak form so far in her career and Eastbourne was her second final on grass after finishing runner-up at the Birmingham Classic in 2021. 24-year-old Jodie Burrage will break inside the top 100 for the first time after an excellent result over Caty McNally on Monday, conceding just four games to the American to the delight of home fans. The Brit can play without pressure here after finally winning her first match at SW19 but she has met Kasatkina at the wrong moment to feasibly get anything from this first encounter. Kasatkina has been caught out a few times this season but last week’s results say she will need top 20 opposition to oust her at least. Back Kasatkina to win outright, with Burrage well capable of snatching a set backed by a partisan atmosphere.
