World number 13 Beatriz Haddad-Maia faces number 14 Daria Kasatkina for what should be a close-run contest on paper. 27-year-old Haddad-Maia overcame Magda Linette in just under four hours on Wednesday to post the longest match on the WTA tour this season but she looked the fresher player against Ons Jabeur on Friday, ousting the home-away-from home favourite in Abu Dhabi. 26-year-old Kasatkina has enjoyed the much kinder draw so far but she found her best performance against her toughest for yet with a blistering win over Sorana Cirstea on Friday suggesting that she is rediscovering her once dependable top level. Haddad-Maia beat the Russian in straight sets twice last season, including en-route to the WTA Elite Trophy in late October, to look the favourite here and her performances so far suggest she could be the dark horse for the title this weekend. Back the Brazilian to win outright.
