World number three Daniil Medvedev conceded just four games to Yannick Hanfmann to reach the semi-finals of the Italian Open, matching his best run at a clay-court Masters event after losing at this stage to Dusan Lajovic in 2019. The 27-year-old beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in three sets that week in his fourth a five-match winning streak against the Greek but Tsitsipas has won four of their last six encounters, including each of the last two, to trail 7-4 in their head-to-head record. World number three Tsitsipas will suddenly be feeling like he stands a reasonable chance at winning his first Grand Slam title at Roland-Garros with the news that Rafael Nadal will not feature and that his nemesis Novak Djokovic is not yet up to full speed.
