This should be a fascinating encounter between world number three Daniil Medvedev and number 23 Roberto Bautista Agut as the latter leads 4-2 in their head-to-head. 35-year-old Bautista Agut has proved something of a bogey player for Medvedev over the years but the Russian won two of their three matches last season, including at this exact stage of the Halle Open last summer. Bautista Agut returned the favour at the Mallorca Championships one week later to see their grass record level at one win apiece but the Spaniard faces a much improved version here as Medvedev’s now 41 wins are the most by any player on the ATP tour this season. Medvedev needed three sets to overcome a tough battler in Laslo Djere on Wednesday whilst RBA saw off Brandon Nakashima to reach the quarter-finals without dropping a set. The suitably cautious move is taking Medvedev to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors here, particularly as the Russian has looked a little off it on grass so far this month.
